High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is in vogue these days. If you don’t know what it is, Google it, but it’s basically brief periods of intense exertion separated by periods of recovery.
There is research indicating this is the best overall training, superior to the more popular cardio type of training.
Anyway, most people that are doing HIIT are using elliptical trainers, stair climbers, stationary bikes and the like. That’s fine, but a more natural approach is a hike like Buddy and I took today up the Red Hill.
Such a hike presents you with periods of intense exertion, followed by periods of recovery. The added advantage is you get to breath fresh air and enjoy magnificent scenery. Here are some samples:
