Wow!  I just finished reading this one (January, 2013).  I’ve been transitioning to the Paleo lifestyle for the last month or so anyway, and this book has convinced me to forge ahead.  This is, by far, the best, most comprehensive and scientifically researched book on nutrition (senior nutrition or otherwise) I’ve ever read.

I’ll warn you, it is written by two Ph.D.s, one a Harvard astrophysicist, and the other a Harvard molecular biologist and cancer researcher.  The book is easily digestible (pun?) by a laymen, but it is thoroughly documented with references to scientific research to back up the authors’ recommendations.  What I’m saying is that it is not casual reading.  It’s not something you read while you are multi-tasking.  Nope, this is a book you will want to give your undivided attention.  Seriously, if you’re thinking of becoming an Upgraded Senior, when you are ready to upgrade your nutrition, which will also upgrade your health and fitness, START HERE!

Listen!  You can do a lot of things to upgrade your health and well-being, but if you are taking the wrong approach to nutrition, as most who follow conventional wisdom or fad diets are, it’s all for naught.  As they say in the world of computer programming, “garbage in, garbage out.”

I’ve also heard it said that you cannot “out exercise your mouth.”  Translated, that means no matter how hard or how much you exercise, if you’re consistently putting junk into your body as fuel, you’re still going to clog your arteries, get diabetes, high blood pressure, and die prematurely.  It doesn’t have to be that way!  Please, read Perfect Health Diet and get on the right nutritional track today.   Enough of the “traditional wisdom,” and “fad diets” already!

Upgraded Grocery Shopping

One of the biggest problems I experience in the nutritional arena is this.  I read and research all these principles for good nutrition, then I go out into the “real world” in search of the right ingredients to fulfill the nutritional recommendations that I have learned about.  Disaster awaits.

I don’t have a Whole Foods Market or its equivalent readily available.  Try finding organic, non-GMO products at your local chain store.  With care you can do pretty well, but it’s a major challenge.

Enter Rich Food Poor Food, The Ultimate Grocery Purchasing System (GPS).  This book will be a real eye-opener for you if you’re shopping in a traditional grocery.  But, armed with this guide, you can walk through this minefield with minimal nutritional damage.  I highly recommend this book, and I urge you to get the paperback rather than the Kindle edition.  It’s a beautifully designed book and has a lot of checklists, etc. which will not be as useful in the Kindle edition.
