Today’s hike was up to the Waterrock Knob Trail summit. This is the highest trail summit in the Blue Ridge Parkway at 6,292 feet, and it’s the second highest peak on the Parkway. It’s also the 16th highest peak in the East.
The trail is only about 1.2 miles round trip, but don’t get over-confident. The first part of the trail is paved, but then it becomes rocky, and steep!
If you’re in modestly good condition, you’ll have no difficulty making it up and down but don’t attempt it (as one woman I saw on the trail) in flipflops – really bad idea!
At the summit, you have nearly a 360° view. It’s fantastic!
