I recommend The Blue Zones as a basic primer on the principles that have enabled humans to live unusually long lives.  The author, Dan Buettner, studied societies that enjoy unusual longevity, and he condensed what he learned from these societies into 9 principles for long living.

Here’s Dr. Jonny Bowden’s book on longevity.  I am re-reading this one right now (May, 2013).   For practical advice on longevity, this book is a very useful reference.  Here’s what Dan Buettner, author of the Blue Zones (see above), had to say about The Most Effective Ways to Live Longer, The Surprising, Unbiased Truth About What You Should Do to Prevent Disease, Feel Great, and Have Optimum Health and Longevity (Sounds like upgraded living to me 😉 ):
